Bromley brings in new market stalls
Creative and enthusiastic people living in the London borough of Bromley are being invited to sell their wares at a new set of market stalls being introduced to the historic Charter Market at the heart of the district.
The opportunity is open to anyone aged between 17 and 25 with something special to sell and a passion for their product, with the £10 price tag likely to appeal particularly to students and individuals with their own business.
According to the local authority, six stalls will be made available at the discount rate for one day of trading on either May 17th or 24th as part of the government-endorsed Love Your Local Market campaign.
The initiative has been created by the coalition to promote street markets throughout Britain, with a view to revitalising the UK's high streets and raising the profile of town centres.
Councillor Peter Morgan, executive councillor for renewal and recreation, was extremely enthusiastic about the effect the scheme could have on both Bromley's high street and the young people community in the area.
"This is an excellent chance for would-be entrepreneurs and inspired individuals with fresh ideas and new products, to get started in business," he said.
"New market traders not only support the local economy but they offer more choice for consumers and will help ensure our 800 year-old Charter Market continues to thrive for future generations."
The council even went as far as to make suggestions on what the stalls could be used for, saying that individuals with talent in crafts could apply to sell hand-painted crockery or homemade cards.
However, applications should be made as quickly as possible due to a limited availability of the stalls. Candidates will glean an insight into the challenges they can expect from bringing a product to the market and making a profit.
Bromley's Charter Market runs three days a week, offering a mixture of hand-crafted gifts and speciality goods in the town centre every Thursday, Friday and Saturday.
