Will letting take-up inspire people to consider flats to rent in London?
flats to rent in London and around the country appear to be increasing in popularity, according to new data.
The figures from Countrywide for June revealed that 18,000 new tenants signed up for accommodation, a 22 per cent rise from the previous month - the sharpest monthly increase since records began.
Furthermore, for the second quarter of 2010, the number of renters looking for flats in London or around the UK increased by 16 per cent, standing at more than 50,000.
Mark Garner, managing director of LettingZone, suggested that some landlords will not raise their rents as they fear losing occupants.
He said: "As long as the tenant is paying the rent and looking after the property, most landlords would be happy to keep that tenant there rather than risk losing them."
Earlier this year, Jonathan Shaw, a former Labour minister, indicated that flats to rent in London or around the UK should be seen as an aspiration on a par with buying property.
