Toys in Havering checked for harmful metals
Children's toys on sale in Havering have been checked for the presence of metals such as lead by the local council.
Officials visited shops close to property to rent in the London borough of Havering and used a special x-ray gun to detect this harmful metal.
High levels of lead, which is sometimes found in paint on toys, can damage a child's brain and nervous system.
Havering is one of the first boroughs in London to use the technology to test toys.
Councillor Lesley Kelly, cabinet member for public protection at Havering Council, said: "It is very good news for shoppers that none of the toys we tested were found to be unsafe."
"We are always looking to find new and cost-effective ways of protecting the public," she went on to say.
Last week, Havering Council, Havering Children's Trust and the local NHS held a series of breastfeeding cafes to celebrate National Breastfeeding Awareness Week.
