Tower Hamlets residents given Olympic jobs
Some people living in property to rent in the London borough of Tower Hamlets are among the first to gain Olympic jobs.
A number of full-time jobs were offered to residents by a London Organising Committee of the Olympic Games (LOCOG) contractor last week.
This followed a two-day recruitment event, which was held at Skillsmatch, Tower Hamlets Council's job brokerage service.
To gain the jobs, which will be based at the venues within the Olympic Park, the residents had to take part in a number of assessments.
The new starters will begin their jobs in July and will work until end of the Games in September 2012.
Mayor Rahman, Tower Hamlets Council, said: "I want local people to have as many opportunities as possible to take advantage of the jobs that are on their doorstep."
Back in April, it was announced that a total of 358 durable plastic bins are to join the 1,000 bins that are currently located in the borough.
Deputy mayor of Tower Hamlets, councillor Ohid Ahmed, said that this will give those who visit the borough during the Olympic Games a good impression of the area.
