Survey finds 89% of residents happy with Hertsmere Council
The results of the borough’s independent residents’ survey are in, and it has been revealed that almost nine out of ten people living in Hertsmere are satisfied with the services their council provides.
Overall, 89 per cent of the respondents said that the council ran the area to their satisfaction, and 84 per cent agreed that it provided a good service.
When asked about how satisfied they are with the area as a place to live, the figure rose to 90 per cent, of which 53 per cent described themselves as “very satisfied” with Hertsmere.
A total of 99 per cent felt safe walking around the borough during the day, and 80 per cent felt the same after dark: a five percentage point increase from the 2011 survey results.
Furthermore, 70 per cent said they believed the council treated everyone fairly, and 65 per cent said it provided good value for money, despite the impact of cuts from central government. The 2011 survey found that 61 per cent were satisfied with the council’s value for money.
Morris Bright, leader of Hertsmere Borough Council, said: “We’re really encouraged by the results of this independent survey. There have been difficult times financially in the past few years, which have meant we’ve had to make savings and look closely at all the services we deliver. We’ve tried to do that without affecting the quality of these services so I’m really pleased to see this very positive set of results.”
The survey, which is conducted once every three years, was completed by a random selection of 1,000 local residents, to provide the most representative sample possible.
Despite the good results, the council doesn’t plan to rest on its laurels. Its chief executive Donald Graham said the information would be used to find ways for the council to further improve its residents’ quality of life based on the priorities they had expressed.
