People considering flats to rent in London may wish to choose wisely
People considering taking out a tenancy on a flat to rent in London may wish to sign a contract with a reputable agency after one landlord was fined for not providing those living in his property with warm, habitable accommodation.
Joseph Heyworth, the owner of a home in Haslingden, Rossendale has been fined £3,627 by the council, after he failed to act on an order from the Environmental Agency to make the establishment fit to live in.
"Landlords have a duty to provide adequate heating within rented properties in order to protect their tenants and prevent unhealthily cold conditions which can cause ill health," said health, housing and regeneration manager Rebecca Lawlor.
She added it is essential that owners of a property make sure regular maintenance is carried out and when a problem is reported they should act promptly.
Meanwhile, people who are currently looking for a flat to rent in London may wish to act quickly after an article in The Telegraph noted demand is outstripping supply in some areas that will host Olympic events.
