Merton scores well with residents
Residents in the London borough of Merton have issued a good report about the council's performance, with the area performing well in terms of customer satisfaction. Indeed, results indicate the authority is outperforming not only other nearby boroughs but also the majority of London as a whole.
Most of those living in Merton think that the council is value for money, with 79 per cent indicating as such on the annual independent report. It's the second highest result since the survey's inception and just one per cent off of the all-time high witnessed in 2012.
Recycling, as provided by the local authority, scored extremely well for resident satisfaction following a dramatic seven per cent increase on the lows seen in 2011. Levels are once more above London averages thanks to hard work from the council.
The majority of people living in the area were also pleased to report that they felt their concerns were addressed, and rated Merton's numerous parks, playgrounds and open spaces as of a higher quality on average than others across the British capital.
However, the survey also identified a number of areas where improvement would be needed, with almost one in five (19 per cent) of residents identifying the health service as a top concern.
Others were disappointed with a fall in the level of policing in the borough with a seven per cent cut on 2011's satisfaction figures. The statistic is particularly significant as the number of people concerned about crime had also risen on the previous year.
Traffic, a lack of jobs, litter and council tax made up the rest of the concerns.
"It's great that our residents think Merton is doing well in so many areas," said councillor Stephen Alambritis, leader of Merton Council.
"It's great that our residents think Merton is doing well in so many areas. We're really encouraged that people are saying we offer good value for money and are doing a good job."
