Loris Garden 'serves residents of flats to rent in Hammersmith'
Residents of flats to rent in Hammersmith can find their environmental needs catered for by Loris Garden, according to Hammersmith Community Gardens Association.
The garden is an outcome of World War II, having been placed on open land left after the Blitz.
Since then, it has fallen under the management of the association, which has overseen its use for the past two decades.
Co-manager Cathy Maund explains that the open space provides a necessary boost to people who live in flats to rent in Hammersmith.
"When such a high proportion of residents are living in flats, they just don't have garden space," she says.
"They can go to parks but are not able to get their hands dirty."
However, Loris Garden offers a wildlife pond and a £50,000 eco-shed which provides on-site toilet facilities, as well as office space and storage for the park's managers.
Included in the specifications for the eco-friendly shed were recycled fixtures, insulation made of old newspapers and sustainable timber.
