Locals to have say on vision for Shepherds Bush
Residents of the London Borough of Hammersmith and Fulham are to be given the opportunity to have their say about what Shepherds Bush town centre looks like when it undergoes a multi-million pound rejuvenation.
Hammersmith and Fulham London Borough Council has drawn up a set of proposals for a major transport improvement scheme, which will cover the area from the Goldhawk Road and Uxbridge Road to Coverdale Road and Devonport Road, and is inviting locals to provide input for how the scheme will pan out.
This week, the council launched a public consultation on the proposals, in a bid to discover what local residents and businesses think about the scheme.
It is set to run until Sunday October 6th, with the final designs for the scheme based on the feedback the council receives.
According to the proposals, a number of upgrades and redesigns to the roads and footways in the area are set to take place, which will improve pedestrian crossing points and de-clutter the streets, in turn providing better links between Shepherds Bush and White City.
It is estimated that the improvements will last up to 20 years and reduce the need for street repairs to take place, which will not only lower the amount of council tax that people pay, but also lead to a 35 per cent reduction in the number of road traffic accidents that occur.
The improvements were described as "exciting" by councillor Victoria Brocklebank-Fowler, cabinet member for transport and technical services, who said it will help to bring "vitality" to the area.
"We know that residents and businesses have had to put up with road works in Shepherds Bush for several years, but this set of works will leave a lasting and positive impression on the area," she explained.
"We want people to find it easier and safer to get around, and this investment will make the area look better and feel more welcoming. We look forward to hearing what people think of the proposed improvements."
Residents have until October 6th to comment on all the proposed developments, including plans to de-clutter and widen footways, add and revise pedestrian crossings, upgrade street lighting, and add new cycle lanes.
