Landlords of flats to rent in London reminded to check gas appliances
Landlords, including those with flats to rent in London, have been reminded of their legal obligation to check the gas appliances in their properties are working properly.
This is in order to ensure the safety of a home and to prevent the risk of carbon monoxide poisoning, the National Landlords Association (NLA) noted.
Director of operations at the organisation Richard Price said tenants' safety can be ensured by property owners if they follow simple precautions.
"The most important thing is to ensure all gas appliances are inspected by a registered gas installer annually," he stated, adding: "Landlords must give their tenant a copy of the safety check record."
Carbon monoxide is tasteless, colourless and odourless and can be potentially lethal within the space of two hours if it enters an individual's system, the NLA observed.
Last week, the Residential Landlords Association announced it had joined forces with specialist solicitor and barristers to develop a user-friendly tenancy agreement that people living in flats to rent could download from its website.
