Increase in landlords may result in more flats to rent in London
There may be an increase it the number of flats to rent in London following research that revealed more landlords have returned to the letting market.
According to a study released by the Association of Residential Letting Agents (ARLA), over a third of its member offices saw a rise in the number of properties being made available to rent because they could be sold in the third quarter of the year.
London experienced a 15 per cent increase in homes being made available for tenancy, while the north-east reported the biggest jump, with 58 per cent of agencies saying they had more residency owners on their books.
Ian Potter, operations manager at ARLA, said: "People are holding back from selling, perhaps strategically, to secure the best price - or more likely because they simply can't find a suitable buyer."
Earlier this week, Bernard Clarker, spokesman at the Council of Mortgage Lenders, warned there may be no significant increase in the level of finance made available for those looking to buy a home due to the impact of the Comprehensive Spending Review.
