Hammersmith: In the heart of the city

Hammersmith: In the heart of the cityBackground

Hammersmith is located in the London borough of Hammersmith & Fulham and is one of the busiest places in the capital, where residents are always certain to be able to find something going on.

The region is a transport hub and also home to the renowned Hammersmith Apollo - now the HMV Hammersmith Apollo - where some of the world's most famous acts, including Kylie Minogue, Girls Aloud and Kings Of Leon have performed.

And people hoping to move to the area may recognise if from the BBC TV series Bottom, while Channel 4's TFI Friday was also filmed there.

Property

flats to rent in Hammersmith cost approximately £1,144 per month, while a studio apartment costs in the region of £893.

Meanwhile, tenants hoping to share a house or find a residence for their family may be interested to hear that a two-bedroom property to rent in Hammersmith costs around £1,651 a month, while a three-bedroom property will cost some £2,201 per month.

Renting a property may be a more attractive option as buying a home in the capital can prove expensive. Indeed, the Land Registry reveals that the average price of a house in the London borough of Hammersmith & Fulham currently costs just short of £420,000.

However, this is a drop from the some £485,000 that was recorded in July last year.

Online resource Home.co.uk reports that property prices in Hammersmith can range from £294,437 for one bedroom to £1,748,675 for a five-bedroom house.

Transport

People moving to Hammersmith will find that they are not short of transport options. The area is home to the two Hammersmith Tube Station in Zone 2 on the District, Piccadilly, Metropolitan, Hammersmith & City lines.

A short walk away, situated in the Broadway Shopping Centre, is the Hammersmith bus station, where locals may wish to pick up some food or buy a new outfit before they head home.

The bus station is open 24 hours a day and includes night bus services, airport transfer vehicles and long distance coaches.

Drivers can travel back from jobs in Barnes and South-West London using the city's first suspension bridge over the River Thames - Hammersmith Bridge.

Amenities

As well as shopping, Hammersmith boasts a number of places to eat and drink.

Bianco Nero, an Italian eatery, is nestled in the heart of Hammersmith, while Annie's on White Hart Lane specialises in British cuisine with a twist.

The Dove - a pub situated on the river - is one of the oldest riverside public houses still standing in the city - with its other claim to fame being that it has one of the smallest bars in the world.

And tenants who love their music may recognise the Hammersmith Palais nightclub from the Clash song White Man, although it is now set to be demolished. Another recognisable building is the Ark, an office building which looks, like its name would suggest, similar to a boat.

Most recognisable of them all may be the HMV Hammersmith Apollo, where locals may still get the chance to spot a famous face signing autographs, or attend a concert just round the corner from their new home.

Living in Hammersmith could certainly offer people the chance to live life to the full.
