Hammersmith and Fulham offers free flu vaccinations for children this weekend
This weekend a free walk-in flu vaccination clinic will be open for children under the age of five in Hammersmith and Fulham. The clinic will offer flu vaccinations for children aged between two and four, in a bid to reduce the illness in the borough.
The walk-in clinic will be held at The Bush Doctors, 116-17 West 12 Shopping Centre from 9am to 11am tomorrow (Saturday January 31st). No appointment is necessary.
In order to protect young children against the flu, which can become a worse illness among vulnerable people such as kids and the elderly, the vaccinations will involve a single dose of medicine squirted up each nostril. This means no needles are involved, so it will be less stressful for little ones.
For those who aren't able to attend the clinic, it is a good idea to make an appointment with your GP to vaccinate your young children.
Vanessa Andreae, practice nurse at the Bush Doctors surgery and member of Hammersmith and Fulham Clinical Commissioning Group's governing body, said: “We have arranged this walk-in clinic for Saturday morning so that parents don’t need to take time off work or their children out of nursery to get them protected against flu.
“Flu can be very unpleasant for anyone who gets it, and children will have the same symptoms as adults, such as a fever, aching muscles, a sore throat and a dry cough.
“It can also cause serious complications among adults and children who are ‘at risk’, such as those with long term conditions, older people or pregnant women."
She continued to say that the flu vaccine won't only protect your young children; it will also help your family to avoid the illness, as well as friends and other children.
Adults who are at risk can benefit from the free flu jab. An appointment can be arranged for this through your GP to keep you safe from the illness.
