Excalibur estate redevelopment approved
Planning permission has been granted for the redevelopment of the Excalibur estate, which will lead to more property to rent in the London borough of Lewisham being created.
Some 371 new homes are to be built at the prefabricated estate, which is located in Catford.
Of these homes, 228 will be designated as affordable housing, with 178 to be put up for rent, 15 for shared equity for resident freeholders and 35 for shared ownership.
The remaining 143 homes will be for private sale and 296 car parking spaces will be created.
To promote cycling, 371 bike spaces are also to be added to the estate.
Sir Steve Bullock, mayor of Lewisham, said: "As the majority of residents on the Excalibur estate voted for new homes, with the granting of planning permission this means an important and sustainable regeneration scheme for the area can move another step closer."
Lewisham Council recently announced that a run-down terraced cottage that stood empty for more than 15 years on Elderton Road, Sydenham, had been brought back into use.
