Cycle hire docking stations hit Hammersmith and Fulham
Hammersmith and Fulham residents will soon be able to enjoy the benefits of Barclays Cycle Hire stations. New docking stations have been installed throughout the borough to allow more residents to cycle through the area. The extension of the south west scheme will launch soon and provide bicycles for hire at a reasonable cost.
The majority of the 14 new docking stations that have been installed throughout Hammersmith and Fulham will be ready to use in December as the scheme goes live. Also some of the stations will then be active and offer residents the chance to use the statement blue Barclays bikes, there are some that won't be live until spring 2014.
A total of 70 docking stations are intended for the borough, which will help people to commute easier and reduce congestion on the roads. The stations will be located in the centres of Shepherds Bush, Fulham and Hammersmith, with more added to Olympia and West Kensington.
Hammersmith and Fulham Council were contacted by more than 200 residents in 2011 to provide their opinions on where docking stations should be installed throughout the borough. The opinions were requested as part of the council's 'Get H&F Moving' transport campaign. Suggestions were also provided by Transport for London and council officers, with all suggestions being reviewed to assess all the sites' suitability.
Councillor Nicholas Botterill, said: "Seeing the docking stations finally in place is great, especially as we’ve been so looking forward to them arriving for the past years. We are proud that we have worked hard to make this happen for our residents, in conjunction with the Mayor of London and Transport for London. This is an excellent scheme that will encourage more people to get on their bikes and hopefully help cut congestion on our roads, which has been central to our Get H&F Moving campaign.”
Docking stations include touch screen terminals that enable residents to enter card details before release cod is issued that is then entered into the bike stand in order for the bike to be released. Residents are also able to register for the scheme, which provides them with a cycle hire key for £90 a year and daily access to bikes.
