Boris Johnson applauds Chinese New Year celebrations
Boris Johnson has backed the "colourful and magical celebrations" that are taking place at the weekend to mark the Chinese New Year, those in flats to rent in London have heard.
The Chinese Year of the Rabbit starts today but will be celebrated in the capital on February 6th, with the mayor of London applauding the "huge burst of colour, energy and good will" that will come with the event.
A number of events will take place, including performances from the Central Policy Song and Dance Ensemble and the Gansu Province Theatre of Song and Dance Group in Trafalgar Square.
Those looking for less traditional celebrations are also catered for, through happenings such as contemporary Chinese-western fusion hip hop artists Johnny and George appearing in Shaftesbury Avenue.
Mr Johnson commented: "These fabulous events attract people of all ages and from all walks of life onto the streets of the capital."
According to the London Chinatown Chinese Association, the new year celebrations that take place in London are the largest of any location outside Asia.
