'Be thorough about renting'
Leading financial website thisismoney.co.uk has issued advice to accommodation seekers looking to rent, telling them that – especially in London – it was crucial to do things thoroughly.
The site offered property seekers its ten top tips on making renting easier, claiming that with more and more people priced out of buying in the capital and further afield, it was key to go about renting in the most thorough and scrupulous way possible.
A first tip instructs people to do their research, taking the choice of area seriously and focusing on local amenities, rather than considering it a short-term solution where location was unimportant – suggesting that people renting property could often stay there longer than planned.
But equally important was advice on using "the whole rental market", which, the website explained, involved more than just walking into high street agents, with thisismoney.co.uk suggesting: "A good place to search for independent agents online is listing websites."
Despite urging people to check through a wide range of agents, the site indicated that registered property firms were indeed the best route to go through, telling property seekers to take advantage of the possibility of asking about fees for references and credit checks – something enabled by the official route.
