Archbishop of York opens new Lewisham school
Dr John Sentamu, the Archbishop of York, officially opened a new school in South London recently at an event attended by people living in flats to rent in the London borough of Lewisham.
The new Trinity Church of England School was completely rebuilt as part of the local council's multi-million pound Building Schools for the Future programme.
While the £18 million building has only just been officially opened, pupils have been back in its classrooms since January.
Sir Steve Bullock, the mayor of Lewisham, said: "It's an honour share in Trinity's special event. The school has many causes for celebration - not only this fantastic new building, but Trinity has also improved faster than any other in Lewisham."
He went on to explain that, over the past two years, the number of students getting "good" GCSE results has almost doubled.
Earlier this month, the council announced the return of the Lewisham in Bloom contest, which can be entered by schools as well as residents and businesses.
