Simon Callow donates books to Westminster libraries
People occupying flats to rent in Westminster are to benefit from a greater selection of specialist books at their local libraries, thanks to a donation from actor Simon Callow.
The star of stage and screen has provided almost 1,000 of his own books - spanning topics such as fine art, philosophy, music and religion - to be distributed among many libraries across the area.
Meanwhile, the hundreds of specialist performing arts books included in the donation will find a new home at Westminster Reference Library in a designated section, which will be dubbed Callow's Corner.
The Four Weddings and a Funeral and Shakespeare in Love actor said he has spent a lifetime accumulating the books but has no more room for them, and will therfore be delighted to make them available to Westminster locals.
"Westminster has one of the greatest arts reference libraries in the country - indeed in the world," he added.
Last month, Westminster Council announced the launch of a new express library at Westminster Archives Centre, providing self-service access to around 1,000 texts.
