Flats to rent in Croydon may be boosted by park cash
Those looking for property to rent in the London borough of Croydon may be interested by news of a £2 million grant to modernise an historic open space in the borough.
Wandle Park is to get a makeover due to a combination of funding from the Heritage Lottery Fund and Big Lottery Fund, with the main change being the restoration of the River Wandle to the surface of the site.
For the past 40 years the waterway has been concealed underground, but this will now be opened up, which may offer a more pleasant experience for local residents using the park.
A range of other facilities will be repaired and new elements added, with the plans delighting Friends of Wandle Park spokesperson Julie Honey.
She said: "We can't wait to see the River Wandle for the first time in Croydon for 40 years and see people enjoying all the new and restored facilities of the park."
The move is in line with a desire expressed in the past by London mayor Boris Johnson to see the capital's hidden smaller rivers opened up to public view.
