Croydon named recycler of the year
Croydon has been handed the title of local authority of the year for recycling at the Plant and Waste Recycling Show.
The achievement showcases the dedication played by the borough in becoming more efficient in how it deals with its waste. As a result of this news, eco-conscious individuals seeking flats to rent in Croydon may be encouraged.
Since 2006, the location has nearly tripled its recycling rate, which is in part due to the fact it changed to weekly waste food collections from last year.
It is estimated that by the end of 2012, some 46 per cent of the borough's domestic waste will no longer be going to landfill.
The judges were left impressed by Croydon's "efforts to address the harder to access communal properties" and praised what they saw as an "excellent scheme that requires imaginative innovation and intelligent use of current resources and systems".
Croydon has also started to use aerobic digestion technology to deal with food waste.
