Canary Wharf: Real City living
Canary Wharf really is slap bang in the centre of the City. Located in E14 in the London borough of Tower Hamlets, the area is right in the heart of the country's financial district and is close to a number of great amenities and attractions.
As its location would suggest, Canary Wharf is hugely popular with young professionals, many of whom work in the several skyscrapers which grace the East London skyline.
According to upmystreet.com's neighbourhood snapshot of the area, the majority of Canary Wharf's residents fall in the 25 to 29-year-old age bracket and are highly qualified individuals.
They tend to work within professional and managerial roles in London and on the whole, earn high salaries.
Most people who reside in the area rent their property and around 40 per cent of them live on their own.
Transport
While many people living in this area have the money to own their own car, they are right in the heart of London, putting them within easy reach of a number of different transport options.
Canary Wharf boasts both a London Underground station, on the Jubilee Line, and the DLR, which gives locals easy access to Bank, Limehouse and Greenwich, among other destinations.
London City Airport is also within reach of Canary Wharf, making it a great place for people who regularly head on a work trip or last-minute weekend break to live.
From Canary Wharf station, people can catch a number of different local buses including the D3, D7, D8 and 277.
Schools
There are plenty of primary and secondary schools within a 1.5-mile radius of Canary Wharf, many of which boast high exam results, particularly at Key Stage 2 level.
At Holy Family Catholic School, Mayflower Primary School, Woolmore Primary School and Lansbury Lawrence Primary School more than 70 per cent of pupils achieve a level four or above grading in their Sats exams in English, Maths and Science. The best performing is Bygrove Primary School – 0.47 miles from Canary Wharf – where 93 per cent of students achieve better scores than the national average in English and Science and 82 per cent in Maths.
The best secondary facility in the area is Bacon's College, where 72 per cent of pupils achieve five or more A* to C grades in their GCSEs.
Things to do
Those living in flats to rent in Canary Wharf will find there is a wealth of different activities within easy access of their homes.
Canary Wharf shopping centre boasts more than 200 different stores, including Bang & Olufsen, Tiffany & Co and Ted Baker. It also features a number of great chain and non-chain restaurants, such as Canteen, Wagamama and Carluccio's.
As if that weren't enough, during the winter months the Canary Wharf ice rink arrives in the area, so in the lead up to Christmas, residents can get in the festive spirit by skating their night away or by enjoying a hot chocolate as they watch others slip over on the ice.
There is also an Xmas market which can cheer people up in the colder months of the year.
