Will tourists look for flats to rent in London?
People looking for flats to rent in London could find they are living in a tourist hotspot, as one organisation says millions visit the city's historic buildings each year.
Historic Royal Palaces, an independent charity that oversees the Tower of London, Kew Gardens and Hampton Court, recorded over three million sightseers between April 2009 and March 2010.
The most popular destination was the Tower of London, which had well over two million pilgrims last year, but even less popular sites drew in hundreds of thousands of individuals, with Kensington Palace having 259,000 visitors.
Spokesperson Catherine Steventon said the palaces offered a "fascinating insight into royal history".
"These were the very places where the monarchy has lived for centuries with their royal courts, where decisions were made and events took place that had profound effects on the nation's history," she added.
VisitBritain found recently that the monarchy creates more than £500 million a year in overseas tourism, with over one-sixth of all foreign holidaymakers going to see a castle while in the country.
