Welling: A desirable London area
Welling is an area of Greater London located in the borough of Bexley, close to Falconwood and Bexleyheath. It is a great area to live if you want to benefit from a great small town feel, while still being within reach of all the benefits the larger city has to offer.
You'll find a really good mix of people throughout Welling, providing an interesting and balanced feel to the neighbourhood. A favoured area among young professionals, families and retirees, Welling has something for everyone and allows you to put down strong roots in a great place.
History
Welling was a small village located on the main road running between London and Kent, but this all changed when the railway line was built in 1895. Formerly the place to stay when making the journey to Kent, Welling had a number of inns, some of which are still standing.
It was after World War One when Welling got its real boost though, as following this 400 new homes were constructed, creating a strong suburban atmosphere. It has since seen fairly rapid development, providing a good number of family homes.
Attractions
Welling has quite a good number of shops, both chain stores and independents, allowing residents to find most of what they need without having to venture too far. As well as the usual supermarkets and coffee shops, you'll also find an independent florist and butcher, as well as fashion stores, hairdressers and pubs.
The abundance of shop types on the high street makes it a good place to spend a day, while each individual neighbourhood will have its own smaller stores and takeaway restaurants.
Welling also benefits from Danson Park, which is one of London's best open spaces and has won awards. As well as a gorgeous green area, the park also has a boating lake complete with boat house, which contains a restaurant. You can enjoy a walk around the lake or through the woodland area, as well as events all year round that are open to the public.
The park plays host to fireworks nights, the Danson Festival and an array of craft fairs, fairgrounds and circuses, making it an enviable place to leave close to.
When it comes to restaurants and pubs, you'll find a great roast carvery in many of the eateries in Welling. It is easy to get a good hearty meal at a fair price in the area, with a good number of restaurants and food-serving pubs available.
You'll also benefit from the huge number of cuisines on offer at local takeaways and restaurants, including Greek, Italian, Thai, Indian and Chinese.
Houses
Homes in Welling are highly sought after, so you may find that there is some competition for properties. If you find a place you like within the area, it is highly advised that you snap it up quickly.
You'll find Welling has a good range of well-sized 1930's houses, which are ideal for house shares or young families.
The largest of the properties in the area tend to be near Danson Park, with the size and location meaning they come at a higher price than elsewhere in the neighbourhood. Here you'll find three or four-bed properties that benefit from being a stone's throw away from all that the park has to offer.
You'll also find some lovely Victorian properties, as well as newly-built flats in the area; providing something for everyone.
