Upmystreet.com's neighbourhood snapshot of the centre of Streatham states that the average family income of those living in the area is between medium and very high and the interest in current affairs is very high.

A very low to medium percentage of the houses are owned by those with a mortgage, which means that there is plenty of property to rent in the area.

Of those living in the area, a very high proportion is educated to a degree level and a very low to medium number are couples with children.

Many people in the area are young and live in houses that have been converted into flats in multi-ethnic communities, while the main interests of the residents include sport, theatre, the arts and self-improvement classes.

Transport

The most popular method of travelling around for those living in Streatham is public transport.

Some 15 bus routes run through Streatham during the day and five at night, including the 159 between Croydon Library and Oxford Circus.

There are three railway stations in the area - Streatham Hill Rail Station, Streatham Rail Station and Streatham Common Rail Station and the nearest London Underground Station is Tooting Bec, which is 1.4 miles away.

Schools

The nearest primary schools to the centre of Streatham are Immanuel and St Andrew Church of England Primary School, St Andrew's Catholic Primary School, Eardley School, St Leonard's Church of England Primary School and Sunnyhill Primary School.

Of those who took their Key Stage 2 Sats tests at St Andrew's Catholic Primary School last year, 90 per cent achieved a Level 4 or above in English, 92 per cent in maths and 97 per cent in science.

The nearest secondary schools to the centre of Streatham are Bishop Thomas Grant Catholic Secondary School, Dunraven School, St Joseph's College, Streatham and Clapham High School and Norbury Manor Business and Enterprise College for Girls.

Of those who sat their GCSEs at Streatham and Clapham High School last year, 95 per cent achieved five or more A* - C grades.

Things to do

Sports and exercise fanatics have plenty to do in Streatham, which is home to ice hockey team the Stretaham Redskins, football club Dulwich Hamlet, rugby league team South London Storm and rugby union club Streatham-Croydon RFC.

Music lovers can head to the White Lion on Streatham High Road to watch live performances while enjoying a drink or two with friends, whereas those who prefer watching films can head to the Odeon on Streatham High Road, which has eight screens.

In the inter-war period, Streatham gained the reputation of 'the West End of South London' as it boasted three cinemas, Streatham Theatre, a ballroom and an ice rink.

The theatre has since been transformed into a bingo hall and the ballroom is now the home of Ceasar's nightclub, but locals can easily hop on a train or bus to visit other theatres and dancing venues in the borough.

Once a year, a kite fair takes place at Streatham Common, which sees thousands of people head to the area to watch demonstrations and learn how to build and fly a kite.

The Streatham Festival also takes place annually. This two-week event features live music, comedy, film, art, literature, dance and walks.

Overall, Streatham is a fantastic place for those looking for property to rent in the London borough of Lambeth that is near to great schools, sports facilities and has good transport links to the centre of the city.
