Southwark schools see major improvements
Families looking for flats to rent in Southwark are likely to be encouraged by new results from Ofsted regarding the area's education services.
"Dramatic strides" have been made by primary, secondary and special schools in the London borough, with the majority receiving "good" or "outstanding" recommendations.
Some 20 local primaries are now deemed outstanding, while GCSE or equivalent qualifications are also improving at secondary level; nearly 60 per cent of pupils picked up five or more at A-star to C grades this year.
Southwark Council said this makes the borough the second most-improved in the whole country in the last five years.
Catherine McDonald is cabinet member for children's services and said she is "delighted" to see the area flourish.
"It is a fantastic achievement and demonstrates our commitment to help give children and young people in Southwark the best possible start in life," she added.
The news comes days after the local authority announced plans to involve more young people in the world of politics.
Southwark Youth Council is looking for 20 members, one of which will represent the borough at the UK's Youth Parliament.
