Southwark residents given say on Taxicard scheme
Those living in property to rent in the London borough of Southwark are being given the chance to have their say on a travel subsidy scheme.
The Taxicard scheme allows people who have disabilities to use black taxi services at a discounted price so that they can get around the area with greater ease.
However, the funding to run it has recently been cut, despite demand for the service soaring by more than 75 per cent since its introduction.
Southwark Council wants to hear the views of local people on the future of the scheme.
Councillor Dora Dixon-Fyle, cabinet member for health and adult social care at Southwark Council, said: "We want to continue to offer it as widely as possible as it does give users independence, but we have to find ways of limiting the costs to be able to do that as fairly as possible."
Last month, a scheme was launched in Southwark which meant that drivers will save money if they pay for their parking by phone rather than using coins at a machine.
