Southwark Council to consult residents on Peckham Rye
Southwark Council are set to breathe new life into the Peckham Rye area and are currently conducting a public consultation from the local community about future plans.
Residents have been asked to submit their ideas about work that can be carried out to improve the suburb.
Community engagement specialist Ash Sakula has been appointed to take forward redevelopment plans for the area.
The project will involve collaboration between Southwark Council, Network Rail, the GLA and Southern Railways.
The local community have been encouraged to use their creativity and innovation to co-design proposals for development of the area.
Commenting on the findings, Fiona Colley, cabinet member for regeneration at Southwark Council, said: "It's really important that everybody has their fair say about the plans for Peckham Rye station and the surrounding area. There are many businesses and people that want to get involved as partners in co-designing this project and that's what I want to encourage."
Ms Colley added that she hoped the plans would lead to many positive discussions.
Over the next few weeks, Ash Sakula will be working up a community engagement programme in which she will be collaborating with local residents to come up with a scheme for the area.
Network Rail and Southwark Council will continue to liaise directly with all their business tenants and leaseholders in Peckham Rye.
Tom Higginson, head of planning and land services at Network Rail, said that he hoped the discussion will help to bring the community together to come up with proposals that will benefit the area.
He added: "Network Rail is delighted with the appointment of Ash Sakula. We are confident their skill and expertise will help maximise community involvement and participation to build on what has already been achieved and help produce proposals that are right and viable for Peckham Rye."
