Selsdon's Quest Academy to benefit from £16 million regeneration
Quest Academy in Selsdon, Croydon, is set to undergo a £16 million rebuilding project in a bid to create a school that will serve both pupils and residents in the local community.
As the Croydon and Purley Advertiser reports, the new facility will be built alongside the existing site in Farnborough Avenue, with the initiative expected to be completed by September 2014.
And with plans for the rebuilding scheme including the delivery of a community facility that will involve Monks Hill Sports Centre and a fresh landscaped green space on the site of the old school, local residents of all ages are expected to benefit from the project.
Selsdon High School became an academy in 2010, and with a 2012 Ofsted inspection rating it as "good", it is considered to have made substantial steps in enhancing education in recent years.
Indeed, it was recently highlighted as being one of the top 100 most-improved schools in the country by education minister David Laws.
"I believe we are on a journey towards a truly outstanding school of choice for Selsdon," principal Andy Crofts told the Advertiser.
"We have also tried to become a hub for Selsdon, which is what our new community facility will hopefully act as."
"We are keen to help our students be as creative as possible and a theatre, which the current building doesn't have, will encourage the performing arts."
With the focus on providing a facility that will not only benefit families with secondary-school aged children but other residents too, flats to rent in Selsdon could become more appealing to people looking for a home in an upcoming location.
Indeed, with good transport links to Croydon, Selsdon represents an area of Greater London that strikes a balance between the hectic city life and the quieter surroundings of the suburbs.
