Residents of flats to rent in Finchley to see parking rules relaxed
Barnet Council has announced that rules regarding parking near schools in the London borough are to be relaxed.
Previously, penalty charge notices were issued instantly to motorists stopping in controlled parking zones.
The scheme was introduced to address concerns about vehicles preventing residents from parking near their homes and blocking transport hubs and town centres.
But it will now be relaxed in the vicinity of schools, allowing those who choose flats to rent in Finchley and other areas of Barnet a grace period.
Andrew Harper, cabinet member for environment and transport, said the "common sense approach" would allow the council to "maintain the provision of parking spaces for residents while addressing the needs of parents seeking to collect their children from school".
Under the new rules, drivers will be allowed to stop for ten minutes before a penalty charge notice is issued, as long as they are not parked obstructively.
Barnet Council recently revealed that it will be offering children in the borough a programme of activities such as cooking classes over the Easter period.
