People in flats to rent in Harrow may benefit from new Smartwater kit
Those living in flats to rent in the London borough of Harrow may benefit from a new burglary scheme.
A total of 15,000 homes in the area have received a free Smartwater kit as part of a joint project from the council and police force.
The substance contained in the package, which is still fairly new, is almost impossible to remove and is used to mark items in a property.
It leaves a unique trace that can be seen under UV light, allowing police officers to determine exactly where any stolen goods have come from.
Wealdstone ward councillor and portfolio holder for environment and community safety Phillip O'Dell said that although Harrow is one of the safest boroughs in London, "it's our duty as a council to do all we can to make our residents and their property as safe and secure as possible".
Elsewhere in Harrow, pupils at the local Pinner Wood School recently carried out a project to clean up an area near Latimer Gardens.
