New Heston leisure centre is one step closer
The new leisure centre in the borough of Hounslow is now one step closer as Morgan Sindall have now been appointed for the construction. The £12 million leisure centre in the heart of Heston, will begin to be developed once the council's cabinet has approved the plans.
Heston Pool is to be demolished in order to make way for the new facilities, as the pool - which was constructed in the 1930s - is getting to the point that it is no longer functional. In its place a new sports and leisure centre will be constructed, which will include the latest equipment. The modern facilities have been designed to meet with the needs of the borough and surrounding community and will include energy-efficient technologies.
Councillor Ajmar Grewal, cabinet member for leisure at the London Borough of Hounslow, said: “This appointment brings the much-needed new leisure centre another step closer. I’m looking forward to working with Morgan Sindall to create the best leisure provision we can for the benefit of the community with new, modern facilities.”
Pending approval by the cabinet, the new centre will include state-of-the-art health suites, a gym with 100 different stations, both a 25 metre main pool and a learner pool, along with dance studios, wet and dry changing rooms and a cafe. The construction process will also see a new car park being built and landscaping done to the exterior of the area.
The replacement of the former pool will allow for a larger number of borough residents to benefit from new facilities that encompass a broader range of activities. The new facilities will also continue to advertise the benefits of a healthy lifestyle, which the City of London has been keen to introduce to residents from all the boroughs.
It is hoped that the project will be delivered on time and within budget to allow all residents to enjoy and benefit from the new and improved leisure centre.
