Myatts Field North regeneration scheme to transform Lambeth
The Myatts Field North regeneration project will give Lambeth a completely new look.
Some £150 million is being invested in the project and the plan has already been praised by the Housing Design Awards. It is included in an elite group of innovative construction projects from different parts of the UK.
According to Lambeth Council, the development will leave the area "open, welcoming and [with] a greener environment". It means anyone looking at flats to rent in Lambeth may be swayed by the upcoming improvements.
Councillor Lib Peck, Lambeth Council's cabinet member for regeneration and strategic housing, stated: "Our residents can look forward to living in an environment that will be completely transformed, as well as benefit from new and improved homes."
She also reserved special praise for the residents who cooperated over the years to ensure the plan was just right for the location. It is hoped carbon emissions will be reduced by 80 per cent, while a combined heat and power plant has already been installed - suggesting sustainability has been placed at the heart of the project.
Once the project has been completed, 808 new homes will have been built, including 146 affordable properties and 357 abodes that are going to be put up for sale.
Brendan Kilpatrick, a partner at PRP, stated: "The design fully integrates buildings with the surrounding context and is the result of extensive consultation with the local community."
It comes after the Clapham One scheme emerged victorious at the MJ Achievement Awards. The project - which saw the creation of a new leisure centre - won in both the Public Private Partnerships and Community Investor of the Year categories.
Some £80 million was pumped into the plan, which also features a library, cafe and a medical centre. The cost was funded from the sale of private residential developments.
Ms Peck said it was fantastic that all of these great facilities have been created at no cost to the local taxpayer.
