Merton residents to be involved in tree planting
People living in property to rent in the London borough of Merton are being asked to have their say on where they think trees should be planted in their area.
Five black poplar trees are to be planted in the borough in celebration of the Queen's Diamond Jubilee next year.
To vote on where they think the trees should be planted, residents are being urged to visit the council's website and click on the Rate Your Location link before Friday July 8th.
Councillor Martin Whelton, Merton Council's cabinet member for community and culture, said: "Getting residents involved in helping us choose the locations of the trees is a great way of involving everyone in the Diamond Jubilee celebrations."
He went on to say that black poplars are the Queen's favourite species of tree.
Those who enjoy not just trees, but everything the great outdoors has to offer may want to take part in an event being held in Merton later this week.
The All England Lawn Tennis Club, Lawn Tennis Association and Merton Council are to hold their annual free tennis fun day on Saturday (June 25th) in Wimbledon Park.
