Mayor focuses on property in London
All new homes built in London, including property to rent in Blackheath and flats to rent in Notting Hill, should address six key areas of design, according to a new guide.
Mayor of London Boris Johnson published the London Housing Design Guide today, which details what designers of new properties across the capital should bear in mind when starting their projects.
In the publication, it is suggested that designers need to focus on the spaces between and around buildings in order for developments to integrate with the wider public realm.
Other proposals include ensuring a mix of housing sizes, types and tenures are provided to address the needs of people who want to live in flats to rent in London and other types of property.
Climate change issues are also referred to, while the overall target is to make homes more comfortable places.
Mr Johnson, who recently called on all London boroughs to generate ideas on how to improve open spaces in the capital, said: "The finest city in the world deserves the finest housing for its inhabitants and when we get it wrong it can scar generation after generation."
