London mini marathon records popular Hounslow turnoutLondon mini marathon attracted 1,500 young people on Sunday 26th April, with 48 young runners from Hounslow taking part in the event.

Charlotte Buckley was one of the top performers in the race, running an impressive time of 18:42 and ended up in fifth place. She was followed by Mohamed Nagi, who ran the race in 15:49, and ended up tenth in the under-17 boys race.

The course ran from Old Billingsgate through to the main marathon course, ending at The Mall. Team Hounslow ended up 15th out of 33 boroughs, marking a great achievement by local athletes taking part.

Out of those who took part, Charlotte Cooney Quinn raised more than £500 for the British Heart Foundation, Millie and Thomas Giglio, who generated £475 for Leukaemia and Lymphona Research and Moataz Aljohani managed to contribute £155 for Great Ormond Street Hospital.

Rebecca Townsend, from Fusion’s Sports Development Team, said: “A huge congratulations goes out to all the young runners who took part, all received a marathon medal, goody bag and finishers t-shirt.

“We’d like to pass on a huge thank you to all of the runners who represented the London borough of Hounslow and their family and friends who supported them both in the run up to the event and on the day. We would also like to say a huge thank you to all the volunteers who helped out as team managers.”

For people to become more involved with athletics in Hounslow, Rebecca Townsend and Chris Jones are the two individuals to contact. There is also a Hounslow Community website for people interested, along with a Twitter page.

Since its launch in 1981, runners in the London Marathon have raised more than £700 million for good causes.
