Lambeth residents to enjoy cleaner streets and safer communities
property to rent in Lambeth has always been attractive thanks to the borough's close proximity to Central London, its green spaces, its riverside areas and its numerous amenities.
Indeed, areas like Battersea and Clapham are incredibly popular with young professionals and families, while locations such as Brixton and Streatham are renowned for offering fantastic value for money for renters.
But improvements being planned by Lambeth Council could make the borough even more appealing to potential tenants, with cleaner streets and safer communities being promised.
Steve Reed, leader of the local authority, said he wants to tackle crime and make local environments more pleasant to live in, as well as creating more jobs within the borough for those who live there. These three things, he claims, are often at the top of the priority list for residents.
"When I speak to residents at surgeries or on the street, more often than not, they tell me the same things. They want to live in communities which are safe and free from crime and they want to live in good quality homes where their streets are clean and tidy," he remarked.
To tackle the issues the council is launching a number of projects and initiatives, including the Cleaner Streets campaign - which will work with residents to make sure streets and pathways are kept tidy - and a £20 million investment programme to improve roads and pavements.
On the issue of crime, it will set up a Safer Communities campaign that will give local people more control over the work of the council and the police in reducing both crime and the fear of crime and tacking antisocial behaviour. Burglary and gang crime will be of particular focus.
"These campaigns are all part of our work to become a cooperative council - giving residents more control over the decisions that affect their lives and their communities," said Mr Reed.
