Lack of affordable countryside housing 'may make people rent in London'
It is becoming increasingly difficult for people to purchase properties in the countryside, according to one industry commentator.
Gary Richardson, chief executive of the Countryside Foundation for Education, explained prices in some areas are making it "virtually impossible" for local people to step on the first rung of the housing ladder.
"Communities, Local councils and planning authorities are becoming far more aware of the need for affordable social housing," he stated.
Mr Richardson also said it is a "gross generalisation" to assume life away from the big cities is perfect at all times, although it is a very different way of living.
A study commissioned by the Department for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs, entitled Variations in life expectancy between rural and urban areas of England 2001–07, revealed that people are expected to live longer in rural areas than in towns or cities.
The news regarding housing price rises in the countryside may encourage more people to look at properties to rent in the London borough of Southwark, or elsewhere in the country.
