Hounslow Council pledges greater transparency over local parking
People occupying flats to rent in Hounslow are to benefit from a greater amount of transparency over parking regulations in the area, according to new council plans.
Hounslow Council has announced the launch of its first official annual parking and traffic enforcement report this week, with the aim of providing residents with more information about parking fines and how to avoid them.
According to the new document, the number of penalties issued by the council fell by more than five per cent between 2008/09 and 2010/11, the result of local authority efforts to work with residents to make parking rules work better for them.
Moreover, the report also provided details of the top ten parking fine hotspots in the borough, in order to help motorists take note of where mistakes are most likely to occur and avoid these locations.
According to the council, this report will help to maintain Hounslow's high standard of traffic management, with the authority recently winning the CCTV parking enforcement award at the 2011 British Parking Awards following safety-driven improvements to local facilities.
Ed Mayne, Hounslow Council's cabinet member for community safety and regulatory services, also cited the introduction of a new parking management information system and a stop and shop 30-minute free parking scheme as evidence of improvement.
He said: "Motorists and road users continue to be some of the most demanding with regard to transparency in the parking representation and appeal decision-making process.
"However, we will continue to improve the service and make the roads better and safer in the London borough of Hounslow."
This comes in the same week that the council announced that free parking will be available across all car parks in the borough on Christmas Eve this year.
It has taken this decision to support local traders, as well as to help out last-minute Christmas shoppers and partygoers.
