Hounslow Centre to get a facelift
Over 1,000 jobs are set to be created in Hounslow, thanks to a new regeneration scheme occurring in the borough.
As part of the initiative, Hounslow town centre will be revamped with a 'play and performance space', along with a 20-storey residential centre and multiplex cinema.
In addition, the scheme is expected to include a two-storey underground car park.
The work has been proposed by Barratt Developments, which also aims to build new shop units and restaurants.
Earlier this year, developers Barratt London signed a partnership agreement this week for the £100 million regeneration project with the Hounslow Council.
If given the green light, work would begin in 2016 and is expected to be completed by 2018.
Some residents have already been consulted over the scheme, while a public exhibition will be held in September. In addition, a planning application will also be submitted next spring.
Commenting on the developments, a spokesman for Hounslow Council, told getwestlondon.co.uk: "The council is supportive of Barratt’s proposals, which they have developed since last November when Barratt were selected. We believe that this refinement brings additional benefits to the scheme and to the wider town centre.
"The additional housing will bring more affordable homes and will help to fund more underground car parking, making the best use of valuable town centre space both now and in the future."
According to the developers, this new initiative will bring many benefits to the area, including greater recognition of Hounslow, a sharp boost to employment and attracting more people to the area.
However, the reaction from some residents has been mixed. While many have welcomed the scheme, Trevor Timpson, president of Hounslow Central Residents Association, said that over the last year or so there have been some alterations to the project that were not mentioned initially.
