Hounslow announces plans to regenerate the area
Hounslow Council has outlined new plans to develop homes in the borough, it has been revealed.
The council recently signed an agreement with developers Barratt London and Wilson Bowden to deliver the High Street Quarter regeneration.
Developer Barratt London, in partnership with Wilson Bowden, were selected by the council last November as their partner to construct the mixed-use scheme, which will be the first major development in the high street for over 20 years.
Councillor Steve Curran, cabinet member for housing, planning and regeneration, said the signing of the agreement marked an important milestone for the redevelopment scheme and would play a major role in boosting the economic prosperity of the town.
He added: "The High Street Quarter development is the cornerstone of our regeneration strategy and will also act as a catalyst to bring further growth and prosperity to the town and the borough."
The scheme is set to include a brand new multi-screen cinema, space for shops, plus private and affordable homes.
It will also include an underground car park and a major new public space linking the Blenheim Centre to the existing high street.
Commenting on the scheme, Alastair Baird, the regional managing director for Barratt London, said: "We have built up an excellent relationship with Hounslow over the last few years through our work at Great West Quarter and we are delighted to be chosen as their partner for this hugely important town centre regeneration project."
The scheme is one of many projects undertaken by the council to build new properties in the borough. Recently, the local authority announced that it will offer residents the opportunity to get onto the property ladder by introducing a number of shared ownership opportunities.
Buyers will be able to purchase a 45 per cent share in new homes bought by the council, making them affordable for households with an income of £33,000.
