Hillingdon residents to benefit from Green Deal
Residents in Hillingdon are expected to benefit from the Green Deal, according to new findings.
Hillingdon Council is one of 24 councils across the country that has managed to obtain funding from the government's Green Deal Communities Scheme.
This is part of efforts to make homes in the borough more sustainable and energy efficient.
Residents have been encouraged to sign up to the Green Deal Plan, which will lend them money so they can improve their homes. The funds will then be paid back by the homeowner who will benefit from the immediate savings they see in their energy bills.
This loan will be attached to the house (through the electricity meter) rather than the homeowner.
If residents decide to move out of the home, the new owner will then take over the repayments, which are covered by the cost savings passed on to them.
Commenting on the developments, Jean Palmer, deputy chief executive and corporate director of Residents Services, said: "From upgrading to a more energy efficient boiler or installing loft insulation, there are a number of ways that homeowners can save the environment whilst saving money.
"We are encouraging our residents to find out how the Green Deal scheme can help them install improvement measures into their homes to help slash their energy bill."
Energy efficiency improvements can include cavity wall insulation, double glazing, loft insulation and heating upgrades.
Under the current scheme, people will save more than than they have to pay out.
People living in the borough have been encouraged to sign up for an assessment that will help people to recommend which sustainable improvements should be made.
