Hillingdon: 123 new homes expected in the borough
Over a hundred new homes will be built in Hillingdon, it has been revealed.
Some 123 properties will be built in West Drayton, a West London suburb. The location has easy transport access to both Heathrow Airport and Central London.
The development is set to be part of the wider Drayton Garden Village development which includes a total of 773 new homes, a nursing home and commercial spaces, in the area.
Property developer Inland Homes signed an £8.7 million deal which will allow the building of the one and two bedroom apartments to go ahead.
Stephen Wicks, chief executive officer at Inland Homes, said the latest scheme is part of efforts to improve local communities and boost housing provision.
The developments were also welcomed by Richard Blakeway, deputy mayor for housing, land and property who said that there has been an unprecedented demand for new homes thanks to a lack of building over the past three decades.
He added: "The Mayor has set the most ambitious house building targets to address this and the private rented sector has a huge part to play," said Richard Blakeway, deputy mayor for housing, land and property.
"By improving the offer of new, good quality, well designed homes to rent, we can rebalance the capital’s rental market, improve services for tenants and boost the local economy as well as providing the new homes that hardworking Londoners so desperately need."
The deal is part of wider efforts to boost property supply across the UK. Recently, housing minister Kris Hopkins announced that thousands of new homes will be constructed across the UK.
Over 6,500 new houses will become available for private rent in England as a result. Work has already begun in other cities such as Bristol, Cambridge, Chelmsford, Hemel Hempstead and Southampton, as well as across London.
A further 36 housing developments are also in the pipeline.
