Harrow reveals efficient new operating model for children's centres
People living in flats to rent in Harrow will see the area's local children's centres remaining open thanks to an innovative new operating model unveiled by the local council.
Following a consultation with local residents, Harrow Council will be introducing a hub-and-spoke model for running the centres, allowing it to cope with budgetary cutbacks without closing any of the 16 facilities in the region.
It means that four of the centres will be designated as hubs and will remain open throughout the day, while the remainder will be classed as satellites and will open when classes and activities are taking place.
According to the council, this will mean residents will not see any of the centres being closed, while locals will also be given more opportunities to get involved in the running of the facilities through volunteer schemes.
Mitzi Green, portfolio holder for children's services at Harrow Council, said: "Your feedback, ideas and passion for the centres have helped us to come up with a solution that I believe with see our centres flourish and improve even further."
This comes in the same week the local authority launched a new consultation on potential improvements to Harrow Town Centre, Wealdstone and Station Road.
