Harrow residents plant trees in local park
People living in flats to rent in Harrow have seen the local Roxeth Recreation Ground receive 24 new trees in the past week.
The Weekly Walking Wanderers, a community group of ramblers who regularly meet in the park in south Harrow, have donated almost £4,000 to the local council for the trees to be planted as part of the recent National Tree Week.
A variety of species were used in the planting, including wild cherry, birch, sweetgum, bird cherry, magnolia and eucalyptus, thus providing more flower-bearing trees to beautify the park.
Phillip O'Dell, portfolio holder for environment and community safety on Harrow Council, said the passion among local residents over the area's green spaces has helped to keep them well-maintained.
He added: "I hope the walkers and all users of Roxeth Rec continue to enjoy the park and all of its facilities in the years ahead."
This comes after London mayor Boris Johnson offered praise last week for how community involvement is contributing to the safety of Harrow's parks.
