Harrow: 'offers plenty for families looking to learn'

Harrow: 'offers plenty for families looking to learn'Probably most famous for its prestigious school, Harrow is a suburb situated in the north-west of London in the borough of the same name. The area was highlighted in Mayor Boris Johnson's London Plan, which suggests a number of ways in which new home and jobs can be created in the area, helping to boost the fortunes of the capital.

Being on the very edge of Greater London, the borough of Harrow has Hertfordshire to its north. The London boroughs of Hillingdon, Ealing, Brent and Barnet sit to its west, south, south-east and east respectively. Harrow sits in the south-east of the borough, close to the border with Brent.

According to research carried out by upmystreet.com, many of Harrow's residents are professionals who live in privately rented accommodation. People looking to move to property to rent in the London borough of Harrow can find a room in a flat search for under £100 a week at the lower end of the spectrum.

However, some of the premium properties to rent close to the area - such as those around Harrow-on-the-Hill and near to the University of Westminster - can cost more than ten times this.

Despite its wide range of property to rent and inclusion in the London Plan, the feature of Harrow which is recognised across the world is Harrow School, one of the finest boarding schools in the country for boys aged between 13 and 18. Counting luminaries such as poet Lord Byron, former prime minister Winston Churchill and Nasa astronaut Nicholas Patrick as past students, the presence of the esteemed educational institution could well encourage families to seek property to rent in the London borough of Harrow.

Parents need not send their children to the prestigious Harrow School to give them a chance to experience culture and the arts, however. There are plenty of opportunities in the local area for people to enjoy themselves and learn at the same time.

Harrow Arts Centre, which can be found on Uxbridge Road, offers local residents and visitors to the area a "terrific variety of entertainment". In the coming months, productions such as Notes to Future Self, My Perfect Desi Bride, The Day the Waters Came and Fakebook will be played out at the centre, while musical treats on offer include the Grand Union Orchestra, Abba Magic, Renya, The Cobbler's Daughter, Call Mr Robeson and Airplane.

However, those in property to rent in the London borough of Harrow do not have to see their cultural pursuits limited to theatrical and musical performances. The Civic Centre Reference Library houses a number of features such as the local history collection and the children's library service, in addition to all the literary highlights one would expect of such a facility.

A further source of cultural entertainment is Harrow Museum, which houses a number of displays inside historic Grade II listed barns. Among the delights on show are exhibitions on farming equipment and agricultural objects from the area's past and industrial pieces from the Kodak, Whitefriars and Hamilton factories.

As the above shows, Harrow has much to teach local residents - whether they attend the renowned Harrow School or not.
