Harrow investment aims to clean-up borough
Harrow is set for cleaner streets and better parks as a new investment is revealed. More than £500,000 is being ploughed in to improvements throughout the borough that aim to make it one of the cleanest and safest areas in London.
Improvements are being made to the London borough of Harrow in order to make it a cleaner and safer place for families to live. New environmental measures that have been unveiled by the council hope to keep streets clean and parks beautiful. Money is also to be spent on keeping the town centre spotless, as well as a relaunch of the Neighbourhood Champions scheme.
The new measures will be put into action over the next few weeks and residents should start seeing the difference shortly after. Areas that have become "litter hot spots" will benefit from an investment of £80,000, which will see the implementation of cleaning teams to tackle the problem.
Parks are also going to be given a facelift, thanks to £100,000 worth of funds that will see them transformed and maintained. This should allow families and residents to take advantage of all the parks within the borough and any amenities that they offer. A further £60,000 investment will pay for a rapid response team that will deal with any necessary clean-up in parks quickly and efficiently.
Councillor Susan Hall, leader of Harrow Council and cabinet member for the environment, said: “It is time to clean up the borough and return it to being a clean and safer place to live. That’s what residents rightly expect the council to do and we will deliver on that. Local people will also be given more help to work with us in creating the Harrow we all want through the Neighbourhood Champions scheme. They will get the training and support they need and improved feedback from the council, which demonstrates how they are making a real contribution.
“People in Harrow will start to see the difference in streets and open spaces over the next few weeks. We are going to put the pride back into our status as one of the greenest boroughs in London."
