Harrow Council rolls out new computers in all its public libraries

Harrow Council rolls out new computers in all its public librariesDozens of new computers have been installed in public libraries across the Greater London borough of Harrow.

In all, 90 new computers have been installed within the borough's 11 public libraries as part of the local council's ongoing efforts to meet the changing needs of its residents.

Indeed, on the back of the findings of its latest Public Library User Survey, Harrow Council will carry on investing in its IT offerings over the coming months.

As such, alongside the new-and-improved computer workstations, members of the public will soon be able to benefit from free wireless internet access in all of the 11 libraries, while self-service machines designed to make both logging onto a computer and checking out a book quicker and easier will also be installed before the year is through.

Announcing the news, David Perry, who holds the portfolio for community and cultural services at Harrow Council, said: "I am delighted to be able to announce that new computers have been installed in all of Harrow's libraries. Every penny counts, and modernising our services is a great way of saving money."

Notably, the new computers are already proving a hit, with initial customer service feedback suggesting people are enjoying having free high-speed access to the internet.

In particular, users of the library have welcomed the reliability of the new IT workstations, which have been heralded as a significant improvement on the old computers.

As well as making life easier for library users, it is hoped that the introduction of self-service machines in the 11 libraries will help Harrow Council in its continued efforts to cut back on spending levels.

Earlier this month, the local authority called on its residents to do their bit in saving money on energy bills by signing up to the Nationwide Big Energy Switch, an initiative geared towards enabling consumers to save hundreds of pounds a year on their utilities bills.

Over the coming weeks, Harrow Council will host a number of special drop-in sessions where residents can learn more about not just the new scheme, but also about other ways of reducing the size of their energy bills and of their carbon footprints.
