Harrow children's centre commended by Ofsted
The Hillview Children's Centre Hub set up by Harrow Council has received praise from Ofsted. The Hub provides children of the borough with education and health support.
Ofsted awarded a 'Good' rating to the Hillview Children's Centre Hub and gave positive feedback concerning its services. According to Ofsted, the staff at the Hub worked well and successfully with those from the education and healthcare sectors that are involved with the activities at the facility. Staff were also commended for providing fast support to those families that needed it.
The fact that the Centre also works to help families from a wide range of backgrounds and cultures was also recognised by Ofsted. In a report compiled by Ofsted after a visit to the Hub in June, the Centre was praised for the work it does for and the support given to children and families from disadvantaged backgrounds and ethnic minorities. The facility's work with disabled children and towards tackling obesity in children was also noted.
Ofsted were impressed with how the staff had adapted to the newly implemented 'hub' model. This was only set up in June, just before Ofsted visited the facility, in order to make sure that the centre continued to provide all relevant support.
The new model also allowed Harrow Council to make £1.2 million worth of savings, which were required with recent budget cuts, but allowed for the same level of support and service to be delivered to borough children and families.
Councillor Zarina Khalid, portfolio holder for Children, Schools and families, said: “Supporting the development of our youngest residents has to be one of the most important responsibilities of any council.
“Hillview does a fantastic job of improving the lives of our families and I am delighted that they have got the recognition they deserve from Ofsted.”
Ofsted also made a recommendation to the Hillview Children's Centre Hub to improve its tracking systems so as to better monitor each child's progress and to collect more information about those families that successfully complete activities and courses.
