Govt must create affordable and private flats to rent in London, expert claims
flats to rent in London and other big cities in the UK may be an option for people who cannot afford to purchase private housing.
According to Steve Turner, spokesperson for the Home Builders Federation, the government needs to maintain private housing as well as affordable options.
He explained that unless enough of these homes are developed, property prices on similar dwellings will increase due to supply and demand.
"The economic and social implications of not maintaining housing are quite clear," Mr Turner stated.
He also pointed out that the sale of private houses helps to pay for affordable builds, which is another reason to maintain the development of both options.
Earlier this month, the National Housing Federation warned that new affordable housing builds are in danger because of budget cuts and changes to the planning system.
These warnings may encourage people to look at flats to rent in the London borough of Barnet instead of purchasing their own property.
